TurboNed, a turbocharger service company working on an international basis, can provide turbocharger repair services and spare parts supply for a range of marine applications, including fishing vessels and merchant vessels, as well as turbochargers for inland shipping and offshore applications.
TurboNed has been certified according to NEN - EN - ISO 9002 by LRQA since 1994.
Rather than using the "cold" technique, in which a new layer of metal is applied at temperatures below 300°C (meaning machined surfaces such as keyways and threads cannot be treated), TurboNed, in co-operation with Castolin, has developed a repair technique in which a sprayed-on layer is fused into the underlying material at high temperature (approx. 1,150°C).
This new technique means it is possible to produce a new keyway and thread while the shaft can be balanced on the newly applied layer without any risk of damage. TurboNed has a written Quality Assurance procedure for shaft end repairs ensuring that the correct methods are adhered to exactly for every repair.

Damaged rotor blades can cause imbalance, which in turn causes vibrations that wear the bearings - in time this can cause major damage to the entire turbocharger. TurboNed check the rotor for imbalance on a microprocessor-controlled test bench, according to the ISO 1940 and VDI 2060 standards.
If the imbalance is found to exceed the permissible value, it is corrected by grinding down the appropriate correction planes on the rotor. Accurate balancing is of the highest importance and not a single rotor leaves the TurboNed workshop without having been tested and, where necessary, corrected.
The repair of damaged rotor blades is a specialised procedure carried out by highly qualified technicians operating in accordance with class approval.
Rotor blades are dismantled, cleaned ultrasonically and accurately measured. A UV inspection is then carried out to determine whether there are any fractures present. Under certain strictly controlled conditions, TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding is used to repair the rotor blades.
TurboNed has a modern, well-equipped bearing room and a comprehensive bearing stock, enabling us to replace worn or damaged bearing assemblies with new or reconditioned assemblies.
TurboNed can provide all the following parts for ABB VTR turbochargers (series 0, 1 and 4):
On request, we can also deliver spares for the following makes of turbocharger:
